A general purpose silicone keypad is created from a translucent silicone rubber base material.
Painting, and printing (PMS, metallic and fluorescent colors available) and a urethane coating finish a basic keypad with a soft silicone buttons (typically 55 durometer). Hard buttons are created by adding epoxy caps.
Backlighting is created by molding light pipes for LED's, painting the translucent silicone and laser etching the backlit graphics.
Co-molded inserts: carbon pills, pre-molded colored silicone, hard plastic & metal inserts increase life, and aesthetic appeal.
Electrical contact with the circuit is by carbon pill inserts or printed carbon contacts. Circuits can be PCB's or flex circuits (FPC or silver/PET).
