Artwork Guidelines and Proofing
Customer Supplied Artwork:
Melrose requests that you provide a black and white or color printout of your artwork, as well as the artwork in its original electronic format. Specifically we would like two items:

| |
Item 1: An e-mailed black and white or color PDF file of your artwork is ideal. A faxed dimensioned black and white drawing with color call outs (as pms numbers) is also acceptable.
Item 2: The original artwork in it’s native format, for example: Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Photoshop (.psd), Corel Draw (.cdr), Freehand (.fh8). Please provide the original artwork as follows:

Convert fonts to paths or outlines. Vector-based applications (e.g., Illustrator, Freehand, Corel Draw) contain an option to convert fonts to paths or outlines. Contact us if you need assistance in doing this manipulation.
Include embedded graphics (placed images)
Image Specifications:
- If possible provide images as 1:1 saved in TIFF format in CMYK color mode.
- Avoid using JPEG, GIF and BMP images. These images frequently result in inferior print reproduction.
File Size:
- E-mail your file if you can limit the file size to 15mb (consider using winzip or stuffit to compress the file)
- Contact us if you need to send a file larger than 15mb. We can provide you with an alternative high capacity e-mail address or provide a web link, login name, and password to Melrose’s FTP site.
Autocad files: Melrose can use Autocad files for dimensional information. Our procedure is to translate the autocad information for use in Adobe Illustrator.

If the above art specifications are problemantic…let us know. Melrose can almost always work around what ever is missing.
PROOFS:
Standard Line Art Proofs: Melrose will provide a proof for your approval prior to production. Proofs can be e-mailed (.pdf format), faxed or mailed. You can open and e-mail .pdf files by downloading a free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader at www.adobe.com. The precise shading of the color showing on your monitor is unimportant if pms color numbers are otherwise called out on the proof, and your drawings.
Full Color Image Proofs The viewed color in full color images varies depending on the output device. Therefore the color shades of a full color image viewed on a customer’s computer monitor will differ from how the color is viewed on Melrose’s monitors. And most importantly, the production printing device will output the color differently than either of the monitors. Therefore, Melrose recommends that the customer request a color proof prior to production when the color shade expectations in a full color image may be an issue.
Part Dimensional (die-line) Proofs: Upon request Melrose can provide actual cut file proofs. These digitally cut samples can be useful although unusual part contours must be checked … especially in recessed areas.
